We are now just a couple of days away from the 2024 Biogen Pete Marlin Surfski Race and we hope you are all ready for what we hope is going to be one of South Africa's best ocean racing weekends.
We look forward to welcoming you to East London for two days of fun, both on and off the water, so please travel safely and we will see you on Friday for registration at the East London Surf Lifesaving Club.
This newsletter contains some important pre-race information so please read it through to the end and take note of you need to do to ensure a seamless weekend.
The wind looks like it is settling and we are anticipating finalising the route options shortly, so please make sure you watch the official race WhatsApp group for updates and important announcements (see link to join below if you are not already part of the group). All announcements will also be posted on the Facebook and Instagram social media accounts, but the WhatsApp group is the primary form of communication over the weekend.
In the meantime, you can see the various course options here.
SAFETY
Please make sure you follow the safety instructions on the website, these include:
* The wearing of a PFD (CSA approved).
* A leash in sound working order, attached to the body and to a safe point on the craft.
* A cell phone for each paddler with enough airtime, a fully charged battery, the race emergency number loaded, in a waterproof pouch, housed in a pocket of the PFD.
* NSRI SafeTRX loaded and activated on the cell phone.
* Brightly coloured (preferably luminous) decals or 1000mm of the nose and tail of the ski must be painted a bright colour.
* A bright colored decal on the back of each blade of the paddle.
BATCHES
The race batches are finalised and you can see your batches for both the singles and doubles races at singles-day-batches and doubles-day-batches.
REGISTRATION
Registration will be at the East London Surf Lifesaving Club (directions) from lunchtime on Friday and this is where you will collect your goodie bag, race shirt, race sticker and timing chip for Saturday's race.
You will also be asked to show the NSRI SafeTRX app loaded and activated on the cell phone so please ensure that is sorted before getting to the club on Friday.
Your coloured number sticker must be placed on the FRONT LEFT of your ski, and the timing chip on your LEFT ankle with the silver strip on the inside. Both the sticker and the ankle timing chip must be properly attached to ensure correct timing – no sticker or no timing chip means no time!
Timing chips for Sunday's races will be handed out at the EL Surf Lifesaving Club from midday to 3pm on Saturday. |
