30th September: That means we are one month away from the 2026 Pete Marlin Surfski Race. It also means it is time to start getting excited about one of South Africa's top weekends of downwind ocean paddling ... and time to start final preparations for October 31 & November 1.
For the hot-shot racing snakes, that means tailoring your training so you can compete for SA Championship medals across all age groups, which this year are added to the large prize money pool on offer. For the rest of us mere mortals, it is probably more about getting the admin right for a great weekend away – checking & confirming accommodation, transport, food plans, boat and equipment checks ... and making sure your entry is sorted and correct.
With the race admin top of mind, Race Director Charl van Wyk has a couple of special requests:
1) Make sure you are entered – you can find a list of entries here (click for S1) and here (click for S2) and entries are open on the PSA entry portal.
2) Check you and your partner are paired up for the doubles race – This (click here) is a list of paddlers who have entered the doubles race but are not paired up. To confirm your S2 partnership please email info@petemarlin.co.za with the details (your name and your partners name – we cannot always see who is contacting us from an email address or a first name only, so "I am paddling with Bob" does not always help!). No problem if you want to paddle singles in the doubles race: That is allowed but please let us know via email above.
3) Same applies for S1 race. If you want to paddle a double in that event, please let us know via email.
4) A reminder to check your age category if you are paddling in doubles – you can check your doubles age category on the PSA website here. |
